City Of Salzburg

Founded over 725 years ago, Radstadt offers easy access to the main sights and cities around Austria.  With easy access by road or rail, Haus Susanne is perfectly situated for exploring both local and national places of interest.

sights and cities near salzburg
One of the most cultural cities in Europe. Concert halls, museums, galleries and history make a visit well worthwhile. Being the birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg has kept it's Classical charm with many musical festivals in his name.
Salzburg City
Austria's most popular beer 'Stiegl' is brewed in Salzburg. The brewery hosts daily tours which end with time to sample some of the unique and craft local beers. Looking over the city is the fortress. Not only is there an excellent museum about the city with amazing views but also regular marionette performances and small concerts. Access to the fortress is via a furnicular railway or a few hundred steps!
HISTORIC SALT MINES
As the its name suggests, Salzburg has a long history of mining the 'white gold'. Dating back to the Celts of Hallein, visiting the Saltwelt Mines are a great opportunity to explore the world of Salzburg's treasure.
Salt mines at Hallein and Halstatt
Boatingin the saltmines
There are 2 mines within an hours drive from Haus Susanne. The closest is in Hallein near Salzburg and the other is in the picturesque village of Halstatt. There are also mines near Berchtesgarten in Germany (near The Eagles Nest) and in Altausee, upper Austria. All mines are quite unique and well worth a visit.
THE ICE CAVES
Purched near the summit above Werfen is the gateway to one of nature's wonders. Crafted after millions of years the ice caves carve through the mountains.
sound of music tours
THE SOUND OF MUSIC TOURS
Visit the various locations around Salzburg of one of the most popular musicals of all time. The hills will become alive as you visit the Von Trapps villa, the gardens and fountains and summer house. Longer tours also include the Alpine locations and lakes.
DACHSTEIN GLACIER
Stunning views, expert trails and summer snow. An ice cave with hand carved art, walks across the rope bridge and skywalks plus a 'winter' fix on the piste in summer!
VIENNA
Austria's capital city is 4 hours by train or an easy 3 hour drive by car via Autobahn.
The city's Museum Quarter has some of Europe's most treasured art and prided collections.
Not forgetting the wonderful coffee shops, bohemian bakeries and shopping disctricts, throughout the city.
WERFEN CASTLE
620 meters above see level sits a towering fortress dating back to 1075. Throughout the ages Werfen castle has been used as a palace, hunting retreat, military base and even a prison. Many recognise the castle from 'Where Eagles Dare'. Now open for visitors with birds of prey displays and medieval recreations.
LAKE HALSTATT
A beatiful drive through the mountains and valleys of the Salzkammergut leads you to one of Austria's most beautiful lakes. Halstatt town sits on the shores of Lake Halstatt with a panorama of the towering Dachstein Massiv mountain range, overlooked by the saltmine (see above); the original heart of the town.
Lake Halstatt
Famed as one of the most beatuiful cities in the world, Halstatt is becoming ever more popular with tourists, which is why we recommend taking a leisurely cruise accross the lake on the ferry and stopping off in Obertraun. This little village has an area for swimming and bathing and an amazing view back accross the water to Halstatt.
HELLBRUN PALACE
Set within beautiful parks and gardens on the outskirts of Salzburg City. The palace is also part of the Zoo complex. With original interiors and an exciting tour of the trick water fountains, the palace is well worth a visit. Used as the Von Trapp's residence and home of the summer house in 'The Sound Of Music'.
GROSS GLOCKNER
Austria's highest mountain. Some visit for the stunning views and scenery, some visit for the sense of acievement after a long hike up. Others to enjoy the endurance of cycling the famous 'Glockner Strasse' and even more to enjoy driving or riding it!
